Description

Sarconudatornis, popularly known as the Piranhakeet, was a genus of Croodaceous hyper-carnivorous Psittaciform. There are only 2 species known, S. litus, from the mid-croodaceous, lived near the coast while S. populantes from the very end of the croodaceous lived well inland. Unusual for a bird, the upper beak cannot move seperately from the rest of the skull, being fused and able to take enormous stresses. This, along with muscle scars suggesting the mouth could be opened and closed extremely quickly and the jaws which would have had razor-sharp edges in life, has been interpreted as allowing piranhakeets to strip flesh from animals extremely quickly, as a flock reducing a living animal to mere bones in seconds. It's wings were short and rounded for manouverability, and their eyes are small but they had a good sense of smell. It was most likely the apex predator of it's ecosystem, even being able to easily take on an Ursostrigus ferox (Bear owl)
